Digital Charter is searching for an experienced Solutions Architect for a full-time remote position
. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud architecture on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, enterprise software modernization, secure automation, and enterprise architecture – with a heavy focus (but not exclusive to) government or regulated environments.
This role involves owning the full solution lifecycle from discovery and requirements through architecture, implementation guidance, design, validation, and operational handoff – with accountability for security, availability, resilience, performance, and cost.
The starting salary for this position is $180,000.
* This is an ongoing positional requirement for multiple proposal efforts. Based on the Client’s final determination of requirements, if a role becomes available that matches your qualifications, a recruiter may reach out.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lead technical discovery with stakeholders, translating mission and business needs into solution requirements, constraints, and acceptance criteria.
- Operate as a senior technical authority across projects, driving architecture decisions at the most complex system level across applications, infrastructure, and data.
- Design cloud and hybrid architectures on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure aligned to well‑architected practices regarding availability, resilience, performance, security, cost, and operations.
- Produce reference architectures, high‑level designs (HLDs), low‑level designs (LLDs), diagrams, and implementation runbooks (including data flows, integrations, and operational processes).
- Define and implement Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) patterns including reusable modules, state strategy, environment promotion, and drift detection.
- Implement Compliance‑as‑Code (CaC) approaches where applicable (i.e., policy‑as‑code, automated controls evidence, repeatable environments, and configuration baselines).
- Architect secure identity and access models, including least privilege, RBAC, ABAC, MFA, SSO, secrets management, KMS integration, network segmentation, logging, and monitoring.
- Design Dev Sec Ops (DSO) patterns, including CI/CD pipeline architecture, automated testing gates, artifact promotion, vulnerability scanning integration, release governance, and secure delivery workflows.
- Design for regulated workloads by producing compliance‑friendly documentation, mapping architectures to control requirements, and supporting ATO‑related engineering activities.
- Drive application modernization and migration strategies, including dependency mapping, phased cutovers, and rollback plans.
- Guide observability strategy (i.e., logs, metrics, and traces), define SLOs and SLIs, and ensure incident response readiness and operational handoff.
- Define data and database functional and non‑functional requirements, including data retention, integrity, auditability, performance, and availability targets.
- Develop and direct the creation of logical data models, translating them into physical database designs (i.e., schema, indexing, partitioning, and constraints).
- Evaluate database design alternatives with documented tradeoffs and decision rationale.
- Ensure database architectures integrate cleanly with broader systems, including APIs, caching layers, event streams, search, microservices, reporting, and analytics.
- Design and validate backup and recovery processes, High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR), and availability strategies, including routine restore testing and resilience verification.
- Apply advanced database concepts such as replication, clustering, sharding, partitioning, and parallel operations where appropriate to meet scale and performance requirements.
- Guide query optimization and capacity planning for database interactions, establishing baselines and performance guardrails while ensuring secure and scalable data access patterns.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership as needed (i.e., architectural discussions, prototypes, code reviews, and technical risk reduction).
- 8–12 years of progressively responsible experience in software…
