Job Description :
Senior FHIR Interoperability Engineer to drive the reliable movement, transformation, and storage of complex healthcare data using FHIR standards. You will design, develop, implement, and optimize FHIR-enabled data pipelines, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security across platforms from concept to ongoing support. This role focuses on secure and efficient exchange of patient clinical outcome data and payer claim and membership data between payers and providers, with compliance to federal and BCBSA mandates and alignment to Highmark Health’s quintuple aim objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and maintain data processes and solutions for efficient data movement and transformation across systems
- Develop and maintain data models, databases, and data warehouses to support BI and analytics
- Collaborate with IT, product, analytics, and business teams to gather requirements and provide data solutions
- Monitor production work, provide progress updates, and report issues to lead developers
- Implement and manage data governance, ensuring data quality, integrity, and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate on data security measures, including access controls, encryption, and data masking
- Mentor associate and intermediate data engineers as needed
- Perform data analysis and provide insights to support decision-making
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering
- Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5 years of experience in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns for scalable, highly available systems
- 5 years in data engineering, ETL development, or data management
- 5 years of experience in SQL and database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Postgre
SQL, Mongo
DB) - 5 years of experience with data warehousing concepts and data warehouse solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query)
Preferred
- Experience with data streaming and workflow tools (e.g., Confluent Kafka/Flink, Google Dataflow), data virtualization (Starburst), and DBT
- Experience with Terraform and cloud infrastructure automation
- 7 years defining system architectures and evaluating trade-offs for short-term and long-term capabilities
- 7 years in healthcare data solutions across multiple technology systems
- 7 years with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services
- 7 years in data governance, data quality, and data security best practices
- 7 years translating requirements into technical designs
- 7 years producing fault-tolerant, efficient, maintainable data-related code
