Data Lake Engineer - Remote Big Data Architecture

Job Summary

The Data Lake Engineer will play a crucial role in transforming raw data into accessible, high-quality information, enabling strategic decision-making across multiple business domains.

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale data lakes on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and organize structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.

• Optimize data storage, retrieval, and query performance for large datasets, ensuring high availability and scalability.

• Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, and data scientists to define standards, governance, and best practices.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline issues, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and security.

• Develop automated data quality checks, metadata management, and auditing processes.

• Support analytics and machine learning initiatives by providing clean, structured, and timely datasets.

• Stay up-to-date with emerging big data technologies and recommend improvements to current data lake architecture.

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong proficiency in big data technologies
  :
  Apache Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Delta Lake, or equivalent.

• Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms
  : AWS (S3, Glue, EMR), Azure (Data Lake, Databricks), or GCP (Big Query, Dataflow).

• Solid knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and metadata management
  .

• Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala for data processing.

• Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a distributed team.

• Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years focused on data lake architecture
  .

• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-scale data lakes
  .

• Experience integrating multiple data sources and working with streaming data pipelines.

• Prior experience in cloud-based projects and working in agile environments is highly preferred.

• Full-time remote position.

• Strong understanding of data warehousing vs. data lakes and hybrid architectures.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex data pipeline issues and recommend scalable solutions.
