Scientist I, Analysis of Proteomics and Connectomics Datasets – Allen Institute for Brain Science

We seek an exceptional individual who will work with the Connectomics and Proteomics teams at the Allen Institute to analyze and create computational tools to interact with Light Microscopy based Connectomics (LICONN) datasets. For comparable work on Electron Microscopy by our team see

Essential Functions
  • Lead the development and implementation of computational tools to analyze LICONN datasets
  • Lead and collaborate with other teams to extract discoveries from LICONN datasets and generate scientific impact
  • Work collaboratively with other Institute teams to build pipelines and scale up Connectomics and Proteomics data analysis
  • Present a periodic summary of progress to internal and external research community
  • Publish and present findings in peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings

Required

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related or an equivalent combination of degree and experience
  • Proven strong background in computational methods and data analysis
  • Strong publication record
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge in neuroscience
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in relevant computational data analysis methods in Connectomics such as CAVE
  • Experience with Python
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment to meet aggressive timelines
  • Ability to guide teams and coordinate activities within and across institutions, including coaching/mentoring junior members
  • Laboratory environment – occasionally entering labs where experiments take place
  • Working at a desk with computer analyzing data
Physical Demands
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This role is currently working onsite. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.
Travel
  • Occasional travel to collaborator sites
  • Occasional attendance and participation in national and international conferences may be required
