Overview
The IT Systems Administrator serves as the primary technology lead for our Christian nonprofit organization. This individual is responsible for maintaining secure, reliable, and cost-effective IT systems that support ministry programs, staff, and outreach efforts.
Because we are a very small team, this role requires a self-directed, service-minded professional who can manage all aspects of IT operations while supporting our mission and Christian values. The ideal candidate understands that technology is a tool to advance ministry impact and steward resources faithfully.
Key Responsibilities IT Leadership & Strategy- Serve as the main IT point of contact for all staff
- Recommend cost-effective technology solutions aligned with ministry goals
- Develop and maintain IT policies and documentation
- Plan for long-term scalability and sustainability
- Administer user accounts and permissions (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory or cloud-based identity systems)
- Manage and support Microsoft 365
- Maintain network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi)
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues
- Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect donor and financial data
- Manage backups, disaster recovery planning, and data retention
- Oversee endpoint protection and patch management
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity of sensitive ministry information
- Provide hands-on helpdesk support for staff and ministry leaders
- Configure laptops, mobile devices, printers, and AV equipment
- Support hybrid/remote work needs
- Manage relationships with IT vendors and service providers
- Oversee software licensing and subscriptions
- Recommend technology purchases within budget constraints
- Identify nonprofit discounts and donation programs
- Strong working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize in a small-team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a service-oriented mindset
- Experience working in a nonprofit, church, or ministry setting
- Familiarity with donor management systems (Donor Direct)
- Experience with virtualization (Microsoft Hyper-V)
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms such as Microsoft Azure
- Self-starter comfortable wearing many hats
- Strong stewardship mindset regarding budget and resources
- Clear communicator able to translate technical concepts for non-technical staff
- High ethical standards and confidentiality
- Flexible and adaptable in a ministry environment
