Verizon is looking for a talented and motivated candidate with strong expertise in Linux system administration and container orchestration who enjoys solving challenges associated with building and ensuring high service level availability complex systems in a network data center. You will thrive on new challenges as you help architect, configure, deploy and manage the compute and storage clusters used to analyze petabyte-scale network and security event data sets.
This role involves not just maintaining existing systems, but actively identifying technology gaps to evolve the design, architecture, and implementation practices of our private cloud environment for network security managed use cases.
In this role, you will be a critical member of the Verizon Network Security team, functioning as a subject matter expert in container-based cloud-computing and automation. Your primary task is the strategic initiative to build and run our private cloud infrastructure, which is critical to fulfilling Verizon's network security functions will thrive on new challenges as you build and manage the architecture, configuration, and deployment of compute and storage clusters used to analyze petabyte-scale network and security event data.
This role requires actively identifying technology gaps and leading the design, architecture, and implementation of Verizon's private cloud environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Engineering:
Engineer and deploy appropriate network compute and storage solutions for data center networks.System Reliability:
Maintain high availability and performance of the data center networks, support infrastructure, and environment using various monitoring tools.Solution Architecture:
Identify technology gaps to lead in the design, architecture, and implementation of appropriate solutions collaboratively.Policies & Procedures:
Create formal guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure smooth and error-free operations.Automation:
Leverage automation to eliminate manual processes and provide near real-time visibility into system health and performance.
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Expertise in Linux system administration and IP networking.
Proven experience managing Kubernetes clusters at scale.
Solid understanding of iSCSI, NFS, and S3 network storage.
Proficiency in automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Git.
Strong scripting and automation skills as they relate to virtual and cloud environments (Bash, Python).
Deep expertise with fundamental Internet services including DNS, SMTP, and HTTPS.
Hands on experience with configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers
Experience working with Hyper-scalers or public cloud environments.
Experience managing enterprise storage arrays (e.g., Pure Storage, Net App).
Experience provisioning and running operating systems such as Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or OpenBSD.
Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems at scale (e.g., Zabbix, M/Monit).
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles including hardening, auditing, and compliance.
