PostgreSQL DBA - Remote​/Telecommute

Job Description

• The Postgre
  
  SQL DBA will be responsible for database administration, performance optimization, security implementation, and cloud database management across production and non-production environments.
• This role requires expertise in high availability, disaster recovery, automation, and Dev Ops integration while ensuring database uptime, scalability, and compliance with industry standards.
• The ideal candidate will also provide advanced support and technical leadership within the database team.

• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Postgre
  
  SQL databases across production, disaster recovery, and non-production environments.
• Manage high availability and disaster recovery architectures using streaming and logical replication.
• Perform backup and recovery using Barman and native Postgre
  
  SQL utilities.
• Ensure database uptime, performance, and scalability in 24x7 environments.
• Monitor and tune SQL queries, indexes, memory, I/O, and vacuum processes.
• Analyze execution plans and resolve complex performance bottlenecks.
• Perform capacity planning and growth forecasting.
• Implement database security best practices including RBAC, encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, and logging.
• Support compliance requirements such as HIPAA, SOX, and PCI-DSS as applicable.
• Automate database tasks using Shell, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
• Collaborate with application, cloud, and infrastructure teams.
• Manage Postgre
  
  SQL on cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services RDS (Postgre
  
  SQL, Aurora), Microsoft Azure Database for Postgre
  
  SQL, and Google Cloud Cloud SQL.
• Support database migrations from on-premises environments to AWS RDS using DMS and native migration tools.
• Act as L3 escalation point for complex incidents and outages.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance.

• Strong hands‑on experience with Postgre
  
  SQL in both on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Experience managing AWS RDS Postgre
  
  SQL environments.
• Expertise in high availability and disaster recovery configurations.
• Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
• Knowledge of database security standards and compliance frameworks.
• Experience with automation and Dev Ops practices.

• SQL query optimization and execution plan analysis.
• Shell scripting and Python automation.
• Ansible or similar configuration management tools.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant experience in Postgre
  
  SQL database administration.
