Overview

The Information Technology (IT) Intern will provide direct technical assistance and support to HMH team members for network, hardware, data, cybersecurity, software, and/or clinical informatics projects. Duties will be primarily project‑based with varying responsibilities based on the primary team to which an Intern is assigned.
Primary areas of opportunity include application & integration, business analysis, infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and support. Your learning commitment and eagerness to participate in projects that improve the organization’s critical information systems, data security, and data management procedures will be essential.
- Perform analysis to understand user needs.
- Assist in the development and improvement of IT product(s) to meet those needs.
- Conduct tests and identify errors within the IT product(s).
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and debugging of the IT product(s).
- Help with software implementations, including providing training and support for staff.
- Participate in security monitoring and incident response services supporting protection of HMH assets, infrastructure, and data.
- Perform market research to compare and summarize current market options and develop organizational position statements regarding emerging technologies.
- Consult with vendors, perform research, and evaluate products to assist in the selection and purchase of equipment and installation or upgrade of systems.
- Contribute to HMH’s technical documentation and participate in policy, procedure, and standards development.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Available to work onsite 50% of the time with 50% remote work, up to 40 hrs/wk during the program timeframe.
- Maintain open communication and a positive working relationship with team members.
- Maintain professional (business casual) dress and grooming.
- Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Pursuit of a degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, cybersecurity, advanced mathematics, data science, advanced analytics, clinical informatics or program management.
- Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Satisfactory customer service skills.
- Basic troubleshooting skills.
- Minimum of two years of college or trade‑school education.
- Minimum of three months of IT experience or equivalent formal training, with a letter of reference from a previous employer or professor.
Skills and Abilities
Preferred
- Technical Certifications and Project Management Certifications helpful but not required.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Solid troubleshooting skills.
- Awareness of the Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) industry’s current and emerging technology trends and direction, and a keen interest in information systems and technology.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a self‑directed manner, with guidance from the assigned project leader and internship program coordinator for support.
- Google, Citrix, ITIL, Project Management Professional (PMP), Scrum Master, and/or Clinical Informatics certifications.
Flat rate of $26.25 hourly. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The hourly rate is a reasonable good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act. The base compensation may differ based on experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding.
Some positions may also be eligible for performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
In addition to full‑time and part‑time compensation, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
