Overview
We are looking for a motivated Enterprise Technology Analyst Journey - IT GIS to join our team. This role is ideal for someone early in their GIS career who is eager to grow, learn, and contribute to a highly technical enterprise environment. This is a great opportunity to build your skills alongside a highly experienced team that supports enterprise GIS systems at Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).
PurposeAs part of the IT GIS team, you will help maintain, support, and improve our enterprise GIS platform, working on system administration and application support, data management, and integrations with other business systems. You will gain hands-on experience with Esri technologies, enterprise databases, and cloud-based environments, while learning best practices in security, performance, and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support for the enterprise GIS platform, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and related applications
- Assist with system administration tasks such as user management, service publishing, and performance monitoring
- Support integration of GIS with other enterprise systems (e.g., work management, asset management, customer service tools)
- Perform data updates, quality checks, and process automation to maintain accurate and reliable spatial data
- Troubleshoot issues reported by business users and coordinate resolutions with the GIS team
- Contribute to documentation, workflows, and standard operating procedures
- Participate in testing, upgrades, and deployment of GIS applications and services
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least three (3+) years of progressively responsible relevant work supporting departments/business units utilizing one or more enterprise technology solutions in the areas of system and business analysis, process design, configuration, testing, documentation and implementation.
Enterprise application systems design, configuration, and functionality; systems development life cycle concepts; data modeling, SQL, scripting, report design, data maintenance and retrieval; computer systems and databases; troubleshooting techniques; leadership and training practices; basic budgeting; professional writing and communication.
Skills ToAssess business processes and match user requirements to system capabilities; develop detailed specifications; determine system integration points; develop testing criteria and conduct testing; troubleshoot moderately complex user and system problems; perform ad hoc reporting; lead moderately complex projects; coordinate training; communicate effectively; stay current with IT tools and methods; build and maintain relationships with diverse teams.
Desirable Education- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Understanding of core GIS concepts, spatial data, coordinate systems, and map services
- Familiarity with Esri software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise)
- Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Experience with Python scripting for GIS or process automation
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Exposure to enterprise IT environments (databases, servers, networking, or cloud)
- Internship, project work, or three or more years of professional GIS experience
- Knowledge of utility or infrastructure data models
