The New Mexico Department of Justice serves the public interest by providing legal counsel and representation to state agencies and protecting New Mexico consumers and the environment. The Information Technology Department supports agency operations by maintaining secure, reliable, and modern technology infrastructure.

Why does the job exist?
This position exists to ensure the security, availability, and performance of the Department of Justice's network infrastructure, including cloud-based systems hosted in Microsoft Azure and on-premises network equipment.
How does it get done?
Administering and monitoring the agency's network infrastructure; managing network security policies, firewall rules, and access controls; overseeing Azure cloud networking including virtual networks, security groups, and connectivity; administering local infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory across 7 domain controllers spanning 3 physical sites; identifying and responding to network security threats and vulnerabilities; maintaining documentation of network configurations; and collaborating with IT staff to support agency-wide technology needs.
Who are the customers?
This position serves the employees and leadership of the New Mexico Department of Justice, as well as the state agencies and members of the public who depend on the Department's technology systems being secure and operational.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls, and access points and is proficient in managing Cisco Meraki network infrastructure. They are comfortable automating network tasks using Python and Power Shell, and have experience with Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization. Strong cloud networking skills in Microsoft Azure are essential, including experience with Azure Virtual Network Gateway and Azure Storage solutions.
Familiarity with Windows Server architecture and managing a hybrid on-premises/Azure data ecosystem, including sensitive data policies, is highly desirable.
Experience with Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP administration across multi-site environments is also strongly preferred. Bonus qualifications include experience with container networking technologies such as Kubernetes, Calico, Flannel, or Cilium; network monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, SNMP, and flow-based monitoring; full-stack networking from physical cabling through overlay virtual networks and automation; and security experience implementing firewall rules, VPNs, and service meshes.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and three (3) years of experience in network administration and design. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain a Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a hybrid environment combining remote work and in-office presence, with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Position may require travel between agency physical sites.
