Job DescriptionGDIT is seeking a Software Development Manager to support a large-scale federal case management and workflow platform supporting mission‑critical operations and high-volume transaction processing. The Lead Developer will provide technical leadership for application development activities while working closely with Operations, Infrastructure, Security, QA, PMO, and Agile teams to ensure stable, secure, and scalable delivery. This role requires balancing modernization efforts, operational support, production stability, and Agile delivery in a fast‑paced enterprise environment.
This is a remote position. However, strong preference for someone local to the Falls Church area for weekly team meetings.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor developers, QA engineers, automation engineers, and technical resources across the platform.
- Coordinate development activities across internal teams and vendor resources.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, technical quality, and operational awareness across the team.
- Support resource planning, prioritization, and sprint delivery activities.
- Work closely with the Scrum Master to support Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of enterprise web applications and workflow solutions.
- Support scalable, maintainable, and secure application architecture and coding standards.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure and Operations teams to troubleshoot production issues and support system stability.
- Support CI/CD improvements, automation initiatives, and application modernization efforts.
- Coordinate release activities and ensure deployments align with operational and security requirements.
- Support root cause analysis and remediation activities for production incidents.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership across application development and system integrations.
- Support API integrations, backend services, document processing workflows, and platform enhancements.
- Work with QA and automation teams to improve regression testing and deployment reliability.
- Support monitoring, logging, and application performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure development activities align with federal security and compliance requirements.
- Promote continuous improvement across development processes, Agile delivery, documentation, and operational readiness.
- Track technical risks, dependencies, and delivery progress while communicating status to leadership.
- Support development standards, code reviews, testing practices, and release management activities.
- Ensure deliverables meet customer expectations, operational requirements, and quality standards.
- Bachelors Degree and 10+ years of experience in application and/or system development.
- 5+ years’ experience managing technical teams including developers, architects, and test/QA engineers in an Agile environment.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript frameworks, SQL, Rest APIs and CI/CD technologies.
- Demonstrated experience enforcing development quality standards, including code reviews, definition of done (DoD), and readiness gates prior to QA handoff.
- Strong experience leading Agile software development efforts in large enterprise or federal environments.
- Experience supporting mission‑critical applications with high availability requirements.
- Strong understanding of SDLC processes, CI/CD pipelines, Dev Sec Ops practices, and enterprise application architecture.
- Experience working across Development, Infrastructure, Security, Operations, and PMO teams.
- Demonstrated ability to challenge incomplete or ambiguous requirements and drive clarity before development begins.
