Description
Summary:
The Data Lake Administrator is responsible for the administration, security, availability, and operational health of the enterprise AWS-based data lake platform. This role focuses on day-to-day management, access governance, monitoring, and support of data lake services while partnering with engineering, analytics, and security teams to ensure reliable and compliant data operations.
- Administer and maintain the AWS data lake environment, with Amazon S3 as the primary storage layer.
- Manage data governance, permissions, and access controls using AWS Lake Formation and IAM.
- Administer and monitor AWS Glue jobs, crawlers, catalogs, and scheduled workflows.
- Support and maintain serverless and orchestrated workflows using AWS Lambda and AWS Step Functions.
- Manage compute and supporting services including Amazon EC2 and EKS used for data processing workloads.
- Configure and maintain integrations and event notifications using Amazon SNS and service integrations.
- Monitor system health, job execution, alerts, and logs; perform troubleshooting and incident resolution.
- Apply and enforce networking and security controls, including VPC configuration, routing, firewalls, and security groups.
- Coordinate with security and compliance teams to ensure adherence to organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and configuration changes to data lake components.
- Support onboarding of new data sources, users, and teams by managing permissions and operational readiness.
- Document standard operating procedures, configurations, and support processes.
- Participate in change management, audits, and operational reviews.
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5+ Years of Hands‑on experience administering and supporting AWS data lake platforms.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services including:
- Amazon S3
- AWS Lake Formation
- AWS Glue
- AWS Lambda
- AWS Step Functions
- Amazon EC2
- Amazon SNS
- Experience managing access control, data permissions, policies, and role‑based security.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, and firewalls.
- Experience monitoring and supporting production cloud environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills.
- Ability to follow documented procedures while identifying opportunities for operational improvement.
- Effective communication skills for working with engineering, security, and business stakeholders.
- Experience supporting containerized workloads or Kubernetes‑based platforms.
- Familiarity with common data formats and metadata/catalog concepts.
- Experience in regulated or compliance‑driven environments.
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Sys Ops Administrator, Solutions Architect) are a plus.
