Overview

The Security Services Department’s overall mission is to identify and counter security threats to the MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s mission of developing game‑changing technology in support of national security, including guarding against foreign intelligence agencies and insider threats. The department formulates and implements policies, plans, and actions to protect facilities, personnel, information systems, personal identifiable information, property, and other assets from exploitation and recruitment.

What will you do?
  • Provide COMSEC support for various programs throughout the Laboratory.
  • Request, order, and download keying material as a Product Requestor on Key Management Infrastructure (KMI).
  • Serve as the Client Platform Administrator (CPA) – responsibilities include installing User Application Software (UAS), operating system (OS) and managing monthly information assurance vulnerability alert actions (IAVA).
  • Assist with development and execution of COMSEC user training and account administration.
  • Assist in the identification, procurement, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of encryption devices, including handling communication disruptions.
  • Perform a mandatory COMSEC inventory.
  • Prepare user guidance for proper protection, handling, and accountability of classified or restricted records and materials.
  • Ensure all secure communications equipment and material is properly accounted for, transferred, safeguarded, controlled, and destroyed per government regulations and Laboratory policy.
  • Interact with military organizations and government agencies regarding COMSEC requirements.
  • Coordinate with agencies to obtain rulings, interpretations, and acceptable deviations for compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain professional contact with industrial organizations to stay current and benchmark.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Emergency Action Plans and customizing plans for appropriate applications.
  • Ensure inspection readiness at all times and participate in government and self‑reviews.
  • Perform the function of SIPR Token Trusted Agent.
  • Provide support to other COMSEC accounts as needed.
  • Perform other collateral COMSEC related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience operating and handling COMSEC accounts and material.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems or related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience with combined education and specialized training may substitute for education and DoD security experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of NSA/CSS Policy Manual No. 3‑16 and related national policies regarding COMSEC handling and protection.
  • Familiarity with certification and accreditation requirements for COMSEC device changes or additions supporting classified missions.
  • Knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.
  • Ability to achieve DoD 8570 IAT Level II baseline certification within six months of appointment (or equivalent experience). NSA’s IAEC‑2112 COMSEC manager course and KMI CI‑2 Certificate of Management Client Operator (MGC) training must be completed within six months.
  • Certified training in the field of Communications Security or extensive experience managing COMSEC accounts.
