Position: Workday Payroll & Absence Lead (Remote)

Position Summary

CVS Health is looking for a Workday (Functional & Technical) Expert (Payroll and Absence Management) to join our Human Resources Technology team. This person will support the Workday Payroll and Absence modules for domestic and international employees, partnering with HR, Payroll and Business Partners to deliver optimal technology solutions. The role is full‑time and can be remote or onsite two days a week in one of the core hubs (Farmers Branch, TX;

Scottsdale, AZ; Hartford, CT; or Woonsocket, RI).

Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with business and technical partners to support the Workday Payroll and Absence functional areas and roadmap, including the established list of global priorities.
  • Works closely with business leaders and stakeholders to develop vision, goals and roadmap for the product.
  • Maintains clear and up‑to‑date list of key deliverables and timelines, develops plans to achieve those targets and proactively communicates progress to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ensures that the delivered product meets or exceeds the business needs and business objectives.
  • Is responsible for timely delivery of enhancements, project requests and defects, with optimal and scalable solutions.
  • Is accountable for the health of the product.
  • Gathers requirements, business process optimization, fit‑gap analysis, functional design, configuration and testing; creates necessary documentation in each stage.
  • Collaborates with key cross‑functional partners to maintain transparency, consistency in delivery and to set expectations.
  • Understands the needs of the business and evaluates Workday capabilities through research and testing.
  • Actively participates in Workday’s semiannual release process, engaging with the release team on cross‑functional initiatives and liaising with Business Leads on critical impacts and upcoming enhancement opportunities; supports regression testing and guides regression testing teams.
  • Is aware of new and planned Workday functionality, actively engaging with the Workday Community to prepare and communicate changes that could impact business.
  • Leads the translation of business requirements to technical solutions and creates appropriate timelines.
  • Is responsible for fit‑gap analysis, functional design, configuring the application, user acceptance testing and maintenance of the software solution.
  • Ensures up‑to‑date documentation, necessary approvals and artifacts are documented and maintained in tracking tools.
  • Performs and supports user acceptance testing and creates necessary documentation including test plans, test scenarios, test cases and test results.
  • Is responsible for adherence to industry best practice, actively engaging with the Workday Community on future releases; encourages product innovation and alternative ways of approaching business.
  • Integrates relevant data and information and applies the findings to positively impact the Workday strategy and shares key insights and actions based on data and metrics.
  • Challenges partners to think differently regarding HR and Payroll business processes and operational issues; acts as a thought partner and models creative problem‑solving to impact business decisions.
  • Generates reports and analytics to support various business needs.
  • Provides strategic direction and guidance to the product team and shared services teams, with accountability for mentoring and developing team members.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in a Workday Payroll technical‑functional lead role.
  • 5+ years experience configuring and debugging Business Processes and building solutions in Workday.
  • 5+ years experience working on calculated fields, complex reports and various configurations in Workday.
  • 5+ years experience working with business to gather requirements, perform fit‑gap analysis, design solutions, create functional designs, configure Workday application, perform user acceptance testing and maintain the health of the product.
  • 5+ years experience generating reports for analysis, data auditing and supporting requests from various business teams.
  • 2+ years experience collaborating with SaaS vendors to deliver business needs.
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team.
