Role Overview

Data Analyst (Open).

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare

Applies technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills in support of the Carilion Clinics data warehouse and reporting initiatives.

Works closely with the Business Analyst to understand information needed by business workflows and provide actionable information that improves decision making.

Collaborates with IT resources to assist in data governance and data quality programs.

Frequently interacts with other TSG departments, internal and external customers on data requests and documents requirements for technical implementation.

Utilizes analytical methods to review data in the data warehouse for integrity and adherence to established governance principles.

Work environment includes hospital areas, TSG data centers, data closets, and office settings. Must be conscious of all operational and safety procedures.

May require rotating shifts, including on‑call support, weekends, irregular long hours, and occasional overnight travel. Onsite is preferred; hybrid or remote work option is available. Candidates residing in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, or Virginia may work remotely.

Manages multiple, variable tasks and data review processes to support business requests for data from the data warehouse with minimal supervision.

Analyzes and advises management on workflow issues and data integrity problems, offering recommendations for resolution.

Loads the data dictionary and business glossary with agreed‑upon terms, metadata, definitions, descriptions, and related values.

Develops reference materials (application data relationship, BI data models) for supported data processing technologies used for online and in‑person training of other technical staff with minimal supervision.

Manages assigned projects and meets deadlines with moderate supervision.

Assists Business Analysts with the development of training programs and materials to train end‑users and mentor and develop team members.

Interfaces with clients, vendors, and other teams on multi‑faceted projects involving data intelligence.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, healthcare systems, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum four years of experience working with enterprise data sources and BI tools in a financial or healthcare environment.
  • Experience with dimensional databases, cubes, and columnar data structures preferred.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Minimum of one of the following certifications:
    Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP).
  • Good organizational, analytical, dependable, detail‑oriented, interpersonal skills, and English language ability (written and oral).
  • Thorough understanding of the seven‑layer OSI model.
  • Data profiling and data quality analysis experience preferred.
  • Experience translating business needs into data architecture specifications.
  • Experience supporting application users.
  • Experience with Business Objects, Oracle, or Cognos tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with IBM Info Sphere and IBM data models a plus.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and customer‑service orientation.
