Position Title
Director, Infrastructure Communications
Time TypeFull time
LocationHawk Hill campus (Philadelphia) with responsibilities across three physical campuses in Pennsylvania. Hybrid work schedule with on‑site presence required.
Pay$110,000 – $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience and education.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor the Infrastructure Communications team, overseeing staffing, professional development, and performance management.
- Establish, test, and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP) for critical network and telecommunications services.
- Drive strategic planning and cost estimation for projects that impact network infrastructure, telecommunications services, and security.
- Manage system and service planning, budgeting, procurement, and capital‑budget oversight for the unit.
- Lead Green IT initiatives, optimizing power and cooling and reducing the carbon footprint of the network infrastructure.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement technologies for data, voice, and video services across the multi‑campus footprint.
- Oversee wired and wireless network operations, including site‑to‑site/VPN connections, core routing, performance analysis, and proactive monitoring with AIOps tools.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and connectivity issues, managing network software, hardware, and reporting tools.
- Deploy and manage Software‑Defined Wide Area Networking (SD‑WAN), DNS, DHCP, and IPAM to optimize routing and redundancy.
- Design and enforce network segmentation strategies for secure onboarding and management of IoT devices.
- Lead telecommunications operations for IP‑PBXs, unified messaging, call accounting, emergency notification, and related systems.
- Develop strategic roadmap and lifecycle management for cloud‑based Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) platforms.
- Manage vendor relationships, develop RFPs, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement for telecommunications, networking, and cabling services.
- Supervise cabling plant for data, voice, and television; manage third‑party service providers and service level agreements.
- Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer and Network Security Engineer on Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) implementations.
- Align network and telecommunications security postures with NIST, CIS, HEOA, and higher‑education requirements.
- Represent the team on Change Management Board, Architecture Review Board, and technology adoption committees.
- Maintain cabling documentation, evaluate technical and financial feasibility of new products, and coordinate with IT administrators for connectivity to data centers.
- Oversee network border connectivity, security compliance, and third‑party process adherence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience managing networking and communications infrastructure; at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- In‑depth experience with L2 switching (SPBM/VLAN/STP/LACP) and L3 routing protocols (IS‑IS/VRF/BGP/OSPF); BGP experience a plus.
- Experience implementing enterprise communications systems and coordinating hardware/software upgrades.
- Project management experience deploying communications wiring and supporting copper and fiber backbone infrastructure.
- Knowledge of 802.11 wireless standards, CAT5E/6/6E, and fiber cabling.
- Understanding of AC/DC power, UPS, and power‑management systems.
- Experience with network security technologies (firewall, IPS).
- Budget planning, financial modeling, and procurement experience.
- Excellent problem‑solving, organization, and project‑management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Preferred:
Linux and Windows system administration, virtualization platforms, cloud‑based PBXs, vendor ecosystems such as Extreme Networks, Fortinet, Ruckus, or Aruba.
