Job Overview

The RCS Linux Cyber Security Administrator (CSA) is responsible for assisting with day‑to‑day operations and protecting Geophysical Institute (GI) systems by maintaining the security of Linux environments, monitoring, detecting, and responding to cyber threats, implementing system security controls, conducting vulnerability assessments, performing incident response, maintaining endpoint management and SIEM tools, and scripting or programming for automation, while staying updated on new threats and ensuring compliance with standards like NIST and CMMC.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and secure Linux environments.
  • Monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats.
  • Implement system security controls and hardening.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments.
  • Perform incident response and mitigation.
  • Maintain endpoint management and SIEM tools.
  • Develop automation solutions using Shell, Python, C, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity or related field, or equivalent training/experience.
  • 3+ years of professional Linux‑related experience, or equivalent mix of education, experience, and certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional Linux‑related experience and 1+ year professional cybersecurity experience.
  • Certifications:

    Cisco Certified Ethical Hacker, Cisco Certified Cyber Ops Associate, CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), GIAC Security Essentials (GSED), GIAC Incident Handler (GCIH), Cisco Certificate in Ethical Hacking, Cisco Certificate Support Technician (CCST).
Position Details

Full‑time, Grade 80, term‑funded, exempt, 12‑month position at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Report to the UAF office on the first day of employment. Eligible applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
