Project Overview
We are urgently seeking an experienced VMware Workspace ONE / Air Watch Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a Workspace ONE UEM (Air Watch) upgrade project for an enterprise environment.
This is a remote, project-based engagement, ideal for a senior consultant or engineer who can work independently to plan, execute, and complete Workspace ONE / Air Watch upgrades. The role offers flexibility, allowing the resource to maintain other commitments as long as the upgrade milestones and deliverables are completed on schedule.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience upgrading VMware Workspace ONE UEM (formerly Air Watch) environments and troubleshooting issues across device management, integrations, and infrastructure components. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the upgrade planning and execution of VMware Workspace ONE UEM / Air Watch environments.
• Perform environment assessments, review current configurations, and determine upgrade requirements and dependencies.
• Execute Workspace ONE UEM upgrades, including console, device services, application servers, and database components.
• Perform pre-upgrade validation, upgrade execution, and post-upgrade verification.
• Troubleshoot issues related to device enrollment, compliance policies, profiles, and application deployment.
• Support iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS device management within Workspace ONE.
• Validate MDM policies, conditional access, authentication integrations, and device compliance rules post-upgrade.
• Ensure minimal downtime and smooth upgrade transitions for production environments.
• Collaborate with internal IT teams to coordinate upgrade windows and testing.
• Provide documentation of upgrade procedures, architecture updates, and operational guidelines.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with VMware Workspace ONE UEM (Air Watch) administration and upgrades.
• Proven experience performing Workspace ONE / Air Watch platform upgrades in enterprise environments.
• Deep knowledge of Mobile Device Management (MDM) / Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platforms.
• Experience managing device enrollment, compliance policies, profiles, and application deployments.
• Strong troubleshooting experience with Workspace ONE infrastructure and device connectivity issues.
• Familiarity with Workspace ONE architecture, components, and integrations.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and deliver project milestones.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Workspace ONE UEM architecture design and deployment.
• Familiarity with VMware Workspace ONE Access (Identity Manager) integrations.
• Experience integrating Workspace ONE with:
  • Active Directory / LDAP
  • Azure AD / SSO
  • Certificate-based authentication
• VMware certifications such as:
  • VMware Certified Professional – Digital Workspace (VCP-DW)
  • Workspace ONE certifications
• Experience supporting large enterprise device deployments.
