Job Description

MELE Associates is looking for a seasoned Business Analyst with 7+ years of experience supporting major ERP systems and using Cognos Analytics software. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of business processes and terminology for key functions like Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Contracts and others. The ideal candidate will also have experience with using UKG Pro for Human Capital Management and Deltek Costpoint ERP for other functional areas.

The Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for helping to manage the impact of changes in software and business processes on our business systems, as well as creating and maintaining BI reports, alerts and charts or visualizations for dashboards with IBM Cognos Analytics software. This individual will work with their supervisor, subject matter experts and members of different levels of management in various functional areas in our corporate headquarters.

More than half of the work for this position will involve verifying the accuracy of BI output against existing reports, resolving discrepancies, as well as ensuring that all business requirements are met and all report assumptions are valid for all historical and potential future data.

• Work closely with business users in different departments to understand requirements and analyze data for desired insights as well as application and report functionality
• Follow established procedures for developing BI reports and alerts off one or more of our databases, including accounting, timekeeping, cost planning, and HR/Payroll.
• Apply defined best practices for using Cognos Report Studio to develop reports and Event Studio agents for workflow emails and alerts
• Properly join queries that pull data from different data sources
• Creative problem-solving with the ability to identify and effectively use customer support and various online resources for troubleshooting applications, database integrations, plus BI reports and alerts
• Demonstrate high ethical standards with proper handling of sensitive and confidential data
• Provide Ad Hoc data queries for department managers, program managers and VPs
• Assist with troubleshooting functional and data-level security issues
• Inquisitive nature with demonstrated interest in exploring regular improvements and new capabilities in our business systems and business intelligence software
• Other duties as assigned

• Bachelor or higher degree with 7+ years of experience supporting a major ERP system and Cognos Analytics software (specifically with Report Studio and Event Studio)
• Strong understanding of key business concepts and terminology for functional areas like accounting, human resources and contracts.
• Strong analytic and logical reasoning skills, demonstrated ability to "think outside of the box" and provide careful attention to detail
• Accounting and financial reporting knowledge
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) and database objects (Oracle or SQL Server)
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment as well as with members of senior management
• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities

• Experience with using UKG Pro for Human Capital Management and Deltek Costpoint ERP for other functional areas (including understanding of their respective database structures)
• Experience with IBM Cognos Framework Manager for the development of framework models
• Experience creating Data Modules and Dashboards in Cognos Analytics
• Ability to mentor junior BI analysts

This is a hybrid position of telework and on-site work in Rockville, MD 20850, USA. Telework options are available with a requirement to be in the office at least three (3) days a week, based on the level of in-person meetings and office needs.

Salarias are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
