About the Position – Systems Engineer
Under the direction of the IT Director, the Systems Engineer is a senior technical contributor responsible for the reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of New Freedom’s IT systems. This hands‑on role provides advanced technical expertise, leads and executes complex systems initiatives, serves as a primary escalation point, mentors Systems Support staff, and translates organizational needs into effective technical solutions—reducing reliance on leadership by owning initiatives from execution through completion.
YourImpact Will Include:
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex, cross‑system technical issues, independently diagnosing and resolving problems across systems, applications, identity, networking, and security.
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring or high‑impact incidents and recommend long‑term corrective and preventive solutions.
- Support, maintain, and enhance Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, One Drive) and identity/access management platforms.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure, including networking, firewalls, endpoints, and security systems.
- Lead and execute IT projects from planning through implementation and stabilization, coordinating timelines, dependencies, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to system upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery planning/testing, and other infrastructure initiatives in partnership with IT leadership.
- Develop, improve, and support internal tools, automation, and light applications that enhance IT operations, reporting, and efficiency.
- Mentor and support Systems Support Technicians through hands‑on guidance, documentation standards, knowledge sharing, and consistent escalation practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support our mission.
- Work performed primarily in a professional office environment, with some flexibility for hybrid/remote work based on company and operational needs.
- Role requires occasional movement between program sites, facilities, and vendor locations.
- Role requires the ability to respond to urgent or emergent technology issues, including after‑hours situations as needed.
- Work may involve being in server rooms, network closets, or other technical spaces that may have temperature or noise variations.
- Role routinely operates office and technology equipment, such as computers, monitors, phones, and other productivity tools.

- Bachelor’s or better in Computer Engineering or related field.
- Bachelor’s or better in Computer Science or related field.
- Bachelor’s or better in Computer Technology or related field.
- Experience with SharePoint architecture and solution design.
- Experience contributing to internal tools, dashboards, or reporting solutions.
- Familiarity with automation platforms such as Power Automate or Power Apps.
- Advanced experience supporting Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Azure/Entra .
- Strong troubleshooting and systems‑thinking skills across multiple platforms.
- Ability to manage sensitive systems and information responsibly.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also demonstrating initiative and effectiveness when working independently.
