Job DescriptionAbout the Office
The Office of Information Technology provides the technology capabilities and solutions that enable and support the State Bar’s operations and programs. IT is responsible for building, enhancing, integrating, deploying, and maintaining technology solutions which include custom software and third-party software products and platforms; network infrastructure; and information security. IT also provides end-user support that includes desktops, phones, and AV systems.
Position Summary
The State Bar’s Office of Information Technology is looking for a motivated and talented intern to join our team and assist in analyzing and improving user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of key applications that serve bar exam applicants, attorneys, and the public. The intern will review current front‑end technologies, assess design consistency, identify inefficiencies in user navigation, and document findings across both current and planned programs and functionality.
The intern will focus on identifying operational opportunities, streamlining workflows, and creating actionable recommendations that enable better service design and delivery.
Responsibilities
:
- Review and document applicant‑ and attorney‑facing systems to understand current user experiences and workflows
- Conduct user research by analyzing existing feedback, help desk data, and internal stakeholder input
- Develop user personas representing law school applicants, bar applicants, and licensed attorneys
- Create end‑to‑end user journey maps for key processes for program areas, including Admissions and Regulation
- Identify usability issues, pain points, and areas of process improvement across systems
- Analyze opportunities to improve usability, clarity, accessibility, and overall user experience
- Prioritize UX improvement opportunities based on user impact, feasibility, and organizational constraints
- Develop conceptual UX artifacts (e.g., journey maps, flow diagrams, wireframes) to illustrate recommendations
- Prepare and deliver a summary of findings and recommendations to management and executive leadership
- Present solutions to stakeholders while promoting design thinking
Ideal Candidate
- Creative and detail‑oriented with a strong interest in UI/UX design
- Experience or coursework in usability testing and evaluation
- Interest in improving digital accessibility and usability for diverse audiences
- Familiarity with tools such as Figma or similar platforms
- Strong analytical skills, clear communication, and ability to translate user needs into actionable design recommendations
- Collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn in a fast‑paced environment
- Currently enrolled in a 4‑year college or university pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree
- Available to work 10 weeks full‑time from May/June through early August 2025
- Hybrid remote schedule, working one day per week in San Francisco or Los Angeles

Working under the guidance of the Business Technology Solutions team, the intern translates findings into clear, visual artifacts and recommendations. The UI/UX Intern supports the assessment and improvement of digital systems used by law school applicants and licensed attorneys. The intern conducts user research, develops user journey maps, and identifies usability pain points and opportunities to enhance the overall user experience.
The incumbent also engages in presenting insights and proposed improvements to IT management and executive stakeholders.
