A growing energy and field data services organization is seeking a IT Systems Administrator to support its Houston, TX operations. This role focuses on a predominantly Windows-based infrastructure including Windows Server, Hyper?
V, and Microsoft 365, while also supporting networking, storage, and specialized field systems that process large volumes of operational data. This is an onsite contract role with occasional work from home or work in the field.
This position stands out because it blends traditional IT systems administration with real-world operational support in the field. You will work across a hybrid environment that includes cloud services like AWS and Azure AD along with on-prem and mobile server setups that collect and transmit terabytes of data. The team is looking for someone who is technically strong but also adaptable and eager to learn, especially in an environment where IT directly impacts business-critical operations.

Contract Duration: 6 – 12 Months
Required Skills & Experience- 3+ years of experience in a Systems Administrator or Level II/III IT role
- Strong experience with Windows Server and Windows 11
- Hands‑on experience with Hyper?
V virtualization, with VMware as a plus - Solid understanding of networking concepts including LAN, WAN, VPN, and VLANs
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and basic Intune
- Active Directory and Group Policy management experience
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and system monitoring
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure and end‑user environments
- Experience working with NAS or SAN storage solutions such as Synology
- Basic SQL Server knowledge and the ability to run queries
- Exposure to AWS or hybrid cloud environments
- Experience working with Linux systems
- Familiarity with Watch Guard firewalls or Ubiquiti networking equipment
- Experience supporting remote or field‑based IT environments
- Scripting experience, preferably Power Shell
- Experience with physical servers and bare‑metal deployments
- Background in data‑intensive or operational technology environments
