Web Developer, UI/UX Design

Aptive is seeking a Web Developer with a strong background in both designing and developing accessible websites. This is a full‑time, remote position (with the option to work from Aptive’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA). Please include your portfolio website with links showcasing your best web design and development projects.
- Be the SME (subject‑matter expert) in the room who clients trust and rely on for all things web and UX/usability.
- Collaborate with designers, writers, researchers, project team members, and stakeholders to create and maintain high‑quality websites.
- Develop and maintain robust code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Design websites and website features using best practices and insights from user research.
- Create and edit website content in visual page editors in Word Press and Drupal.
- Ensure all delivered products comply with Section
508 and WCAG
2.1 A and AA for accessibility. - Optimize website performance for load speed, scalability, and usability.
- Conduct code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure robustness and reliability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
- Portfolio website required.
- 4+ years of demonstrated experience building accessible, user‑friendly websites, preferably for the public sector.
- Expert demonstrated knowledge and experience writing modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Expert demonstrated knowledge and experience practicing UX and applying user‑centered design in your work.
- Experience developing secure PHP in Word Press and Drupal within the past 2 years.
- Strong applicable knowledge of web accessibility standards (Section
508, WCAG). - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to connect and align small details with an overarching vision.
- Ability to gather user and technical requirements for a web project.
- Experience, comfort, and confidence in pitching new ideas to clients.
- Active Public Trust security clearance preferred; ability to obtain one required.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Experience supporting large federal agencies.
- Experience using Google Analytics to track and analyze user behavior, optimize website performance, and generate reports.
- Experience implementing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies.
- Experience using design tools like Figma.
- Experience with version control systems like Git.
- Experience working with data and developing data visualizations.
- Experience building LOE (level of effort) quotes/estimates and responding to proposal requirements from potential customers.
