The Montana Department of Transportation seeks a Software Developer Section Supervisor. The supervisor will oversee development staff supporting applications built on Java, .NET, AASHTOWare, Planisware, Jasper reporting tools, cloud-based services, and RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, and Snowflake data warehouse. The section operates under Jira for day-to-day operations and follows the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The role reports to the Software & Data Systems Bureau Chief and requires presence in the Helena, MT office at least three days per week.
Responsibilities- Supervise development staff supporting a broad range of applications.
- Ensure alignment with technology platforms and agile processes.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to manage project delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology management, business management, computer science or information systems.
- 4 years of work experience in software development, web development, GIS development, database administration or a related field.
- 2 years of experience managing software, web developers, GIS professionals, database administrators, or data warehouse/data analytics staff.
- Alternative combinations such as 8 years related experience and 2 years of supervision may be considered.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Java.
- Agile development experience.
- Knowledge of Service Now platform, ESRI technology and GIS solutions, or database platforms such as Oracle or SQL Server.
- Web development tools and solutions.
- Proficient in contract, vendor, and procurement management.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and innovative technologies.
- Resume detailing qualifications and work history.
- Cover letter of no more than two pages addressing qualifications for the position.
