Business Intelligence Architect

Job Overview

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated individual to join our IT Division as an Architect. This role is based in the Lansing, Michigan office and offers the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week following in‑person training. The position requires the ability to work onsite in at least one of our tech offices.

• Analyze business problems and develop project plans
• Design automated system solutions and lead implementation teams
• Ensure work follows department standards, best practices, and procedures with limited supervision
• Analyze information, logically solve problems, and use structured analysis and design methodologies
• Document project plans and status reports
• Communicate effectively with team members, users, and management
• Review project assignments with management or other team members
• Lead and actively participate in code/design reviews and brainstorming sessions
• Consult with users, analysts, architects, project leaders, and management to resolve problems and suggest alternatives
• Maintain awareness of current architecture, systems, and programming techniques within and outside the insurance industry
• Develop project plans and timelines by directing analysis, design, and implementation phases of system projects
• Assist in training and mentoring team members
• Monitor system(s) and suggest adjustments to achieve desired performance results
• Assist with other duties as assigned within the department or elsewhere upon request

• Education requirements for a Senior Software Developer in the IT Division must be satisfied
• Completion of an additional Auto‑Owners approved IT certification is preferred; may be waived with a proven track record in multiple programming languages or technologies, infrastructure support roles, or software development teams
• Minimum of two years overall proven performance as a Senior Software Developer or equivalent role
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with projects and/or team responsibilities
• Experience designing large changes to existing applications
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours and travel as needed
• Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship is required
