Programmer Analyst IV

The Office of Informatics' DIVE team (Data, Integration, Visualization, Evaluation) is seeking a Programmer skilled in artificial intelligence techniques such as machine learning and natural language processing. The DIVE team applies data science and informatics techniques to data problems across the academic enterprise, from education to research to strategic initiatives.

• Attend project and departmental meetings and contribute to the project design concerning data management needs.
• Collaborate with faculty, team leads, and stakeholders to anticipate, define, and satisfy data needs.
• Develop data preprocessing pipelines to ensure high-quality input for models and algorithms.
• Explore and integrate state-of-the-art techniques, including machine learning, natural language processing, expert systems, and automation, to address research challenges.
• Optimize and fine-tune existing models to improve accuracy, efficiency, and performance.
• Conduct thorough analyses and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions and provide insights for further improvements.
• Document code, methodologies, and results for effective knowledge sharing.
• Performs other related duties as needed.

• Strong experience in Python or R programming.
• In-depth knowledge of artificial intelligence methods, usages, and performance evaluation, particularly machine learning models and natural language processing (NLP) data analysis.
• Proficiency in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
• Familiarity and experience with Agile or a similar project management methodology.
• Superior oral and written communication skills to translate complex technical details into easily digestible explanations.
• Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases.
• Familiarity with medical data, standards, and terminology a plus.
• Experience working in a cloud environment a plus.

• Base compensation within the pay range of $38.20 - $57.30 per hour, based on qualifications, skills, and experience.

Work hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST. While working in person at our offices in Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston‑Salem, NC is encouraged, remote work is an option. The role may involve occasional long or irregular hours and subject to interruptions.

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. are required for 35–65 % of the time.
