Network Engineer, Systems Engineer
About the Role
The Staff Network Engineer owns the design, deployment, and operational health of Zoom's global corporate network — spanning campus, cloud, and remote access environments. This is a senior IC role for an engineer who is equally comfortable deep in a config and driving cross‑team engineering decisions.
What You Can ExpectWe are not a typical network team. As a video‑first communications company, the network is the product — and our team feels that directly. When something is slow or broken, we hear about it, and we take that personally.
IT Network Engineering owns the global corporate network that keeps Zoom's workforce connected — from office campuses to remote workers to our cloud footprint. We're a small team that covers a lot of ground, so we rely on automation and good tooling to punch above our weight. If you're the type of engineer who would rather fix something properly once than page‑ack it forever, you'll fit right in.
The ideal candidate brings a network engineering mindset that goes beyond keeping the lights on — someone who is constantly looking for ways to make the network more programmable, more observable, and easier to operate will play a key role in supporting Zoom's product teams and the future of AI, with a strong foundation in enterprise networking to support secure, reliable connectivity across our global workforce.
WhatYou'll Do
- Design and operate enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure (switching, routing, wireless, MPLS/SDWAN)
- Manage global BGP peering, VLAN segmentation (802.1Q), and Layer 2 topology (RSTP/MSTP)
- Administer firewall policy, Zero Trust remote access, and 802.1X network access control
- Support cloud network connectivity and partner with Security and Cloud Engineering teams
- Build automation to reduce toil — scripts, playbooks, and IaC templates
- Serve as a technical escalation point; contribute to on‑call rotation
- Write and maintain runbooks, network diagrams, and change procedures
- 10+ years of hands‑on enterprise network engineering experience
- Strong TCP/IP fundamentals and packet‑level troubleshooting skills
- Production BGP experience: policy, prefix filtering, and peering
- Solid Layer 2 skills: 802.1Q VLANs, spanning tree, LACP
- 802.1X / NAC experience in an enterprise environment
- Firewall administration experience (Palo Alto or equivalent)
- Zero Trust / remote access platform experience (Zscaler, Prisma Access, Global Protect, or equivalent)
- Juniper networking experience (EX, QFX, SRX, or MX or equivalent)
- Aruba wireless experience (or equivalent)
- Network monitoring and observability experience (SNMP, Net Flow, syslog, or equivalent tooling)
