OverviewThe Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for an IT Systems Administrator. This position manages endpoint hardware and software throughout MDT, including research, evaluation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and disposal of endpoints, printers, and other computer‑related hardware. It also tracks existing software installs and licenses, creates automated deployment tasks, and monitors systems used for automated deployment. Support is provided to employees in the main Helena office and across MDT offices statewide.
Responsibilities- Research, evaluate, configure, deploy, maintain, and dispose of endpoint hardware and software.
- Track software installations and licenses.
- Create and manage automated deployment tasks.
- Monitor systems used for automated deployment.
- Provide technical support to employees in Helena and other MDT offices.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field such as networking.
- 4 years of additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Level 2.1 – 2 years of related experience.
- Level 2.2 – 4 years of related experience.
- Alternative combinations of related experience or education may be considered.
- Knowledge and experience with the Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Proficiency in a mid‑tier server environment.
- Familiarity with virtual machine technologies and server configuration automation technologies.
- The successful candidate must pass a fingerprint background investigation as a condition of employment.
