Are you passionate about using technology and business analysis to drive meaningful change? The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking highly skilled professionals to serve in the role of IT Business Analyst Journey
! As trusted business and technical experts, the candidates of choice will work with the goal of supporting mission‑critical enterprise applications, such as Dynamics 365, that strengthen operations and contribute to public safety.

In this role, you will perform focused analysis of business needs, define requirements, and provide expert consultation to support agency‑wide systems and processes. You will facilitate requirements gathering, maintain technical documentation, and participate in the validation and resolution of issues affecting enterprise applications. By evaluating system complexities, dependencies, and interactions, you will help ensure reliable technology solutions that improve business practices and organizational performance.

This position serves as a key liaison between business and technology, requiring deep knowledge of DOC operations and enterprise applications across all divisions and back‑office functions. As a technical subject matter expert, you will assess the impact of proposed changes, provide informed recommendations, and support solutions that align with the department’s mission to improve public safety by positively changing lives.

As an IT Business Analyst Journey
, some of your duties will include:

• Performing business and technical requirements definition for mission‑critical and highly complex enterprise‑wide applications and systems which could look like:
  • Independently facilitating definition and elicitation of business requirements
  • Validating and prioritizing requirements to ensure the business needs are met with the delivered functionality
  • Identifying gaps between functional specifications and the capabilities of the technology.
  • Translating business and functional requirements into user stories.
  • Creating and refining features, user stories and tasks for tracking requirements using Azure Dev Ops (ADO)
  • Independently meeting with business subject matter experts to clarify and refine requirements
  • Converting requirements into various types of models or diagrams using the Business Analysis Knowledge Base (BABOK) techniques and best practices
  • Complying with the standards of the SDLC and following strategies, plans, and procedures according to industry standards and best practices
  • Collaborating between business stakeholders and agile team to ensure both areas understand complex business processes and rules
  • Explaining IT tools, processes and technologies in terms easily understood by non‑technical staff
  • Performing ongoing strategic analysis
• Providing support for user submitted ticket analysis and resolution while managing system defects and enhancements for DOC/Correctional Industries and vendor‑supported applications to include:
  • Serving as the IT Subject Matter Expert (SME) for technical support to the business users
  • Analyzing and determining the impact of system malfunctions and eliciting further information from the user
  • Identifying data corrections required because of a system or user malfunction
  • Independently performing testing on applications
