Location: U.S. Remote based out of Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, Wisconsin; or hybrid settings with offices in Arlington, VA or Little Rock, AR

Reports To: Senior Technical Manager, Forestry

Position Summary

The Forestry Technical Officer/Technical Manager is a technical position within ACR providing support to the ACR Forestry Director, Managing Director, and other ACR team colleagues. The candidate will contribute to most aspects of ACR services, including performing routine and increasingly complex project reviews accurately and independently, developing and maintaining systems for project record keeping, attending site visits and performing audits, and ensuring projects move through the Registry process efficiently and with appropriate attention to detail.

Technical support will also be provided to external stakeholders, ensuring consistency and adherence to ACR, CARB, and Ecology requirements.

The successful candidate will possess a functional understanding of GHG emissions/carbon accounting principles and detailed knowledge of ACR methodologies and compliance protocols. The role requires strong technical and analytical expertise, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to track and adhere to deadlines.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and increasingly complex GHG emissions reduction and removal project reviews accurately and efficiently
  • Provide accurate, consistent, and coherent technical support to external stakeholders (e.g., project developers, validation and verification bodies, regulators)
  • Provide basic support to external stakeholders on routine use of the registry
  • Develop and/or maintain institutional systems for project record keeping, regulatory guidance tracking, and sector‑specific technological advancements
  • Attend site visits and perform audits as assigned
  • Perform technical and policy analysis as assigned
  • Support and contribute to technical team and ACR objectives, including developing templates, coordinating across ACR teams, developing internal policies, creating GIS maps, supporting co‑benefits efforts, and authoring sections of ACR policy documents
  • Represent ACR externally (e.g., working groups, conference presentations)
  • Provide administrative support for methodology development and updates as a Technical Officer
  • Lead, develop, and update methodology procedures as a Technical Manager
  • Perform policy analysis as a Technical Manager
  • Serve as team lead for more complicated methodologies and protocols and mentor junior staff
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including resolution or escalation of contentious matters
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, GHG emissions accounting, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant work or research experience for a Technical Officer; 6+ years for a Technical Manager. Must have experience or training in forest quantification and GHG emissions/carbon accounting principles, verification and auditing standards, and at least one ACR Forestry sector project type.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior work in forest ecology, carbon markets, forest carbon measurement and monitoring, forest inventory design and statistics, silviculture, or related fields.

Computer/Technical

Skills:

Proficiency in MS Office suite, GIS, and SharePoint.

Communication

Skills:

Strong writing skills required.

Language: Fluency in spoken and written English required; additional languages a plus.

Required Travel: Must be available to travel 1‑3 times per year for short‑term assignments.
