Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Technical Writer with 5+ years of professional writing experience. This role works independently with some guidance, applies working and general industry knowledge to support technical documentation development and maintenance, policy writing, and internal/external communications across multiple government work streams.
- Develop, write, and edit high quality technical documentation, including system manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, white papers, training materials, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
- Collaborate with SMEs, engineers, program managers, and compliance teams to gather information and ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Translate technical concepts into accessible content for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Maintain version control and ensure documentation meets internal quality standards and government mandated requirements.
- Review and revise existing documentation to improve clarity, consistency, and compliance.
- Create templates, style guides, and documentation standards to support organizational consistency.
- Conduct research to ensure content accuracy, including reviewing federal regulations, contract requirements, and technical specifications.
- Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Work with technical staff to help document the "as‑is" environment.
- 5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a government contract environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and collaborative documentation tools such as Teams or SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Agile, Dev Sec Ops , or ITIL environments.
- Experience running workshops or interviews with technical staff to gather content.
- Ability to operate in ambiguous environments, perform discovery, and propose a structured plan to move from "unknown current state" to a well‑documented capability.
- Strong communication skills capable of conveying technical concepts to senior leadership and customer stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field
This role is located in the Hampton Roads, VA area. The work schedule will be hybrid, with employees working from home and traveling to client sites located in Suffolk, Chesapeake, and the corporate office in Virginia Beach.
