Departmental Overview
The Industry Alliances Office (IAO) is responsible for the creation, negotiation, and implementation of agreements with industry that support campus research activities and facilitate a strong relationship with the corporate sector. Industry related agreements include all agreements related to the support of research by for-profit entities, including sponsored research agreements, industry affiliate agreements, Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants, and collaboration agreements.
IAO also negotiates all incoming material transfer and data transfer agreements as well as research related confidentiality agreements for the UC Berkeley campus. IAO conducts outreach to both the campus community and industry sector concerning industry/university relationships, technology transfer and research activities at UC Berkeley.
Position Summary
This position facilitates industry sponsored research on campus, including the submission of proposals and the negotiation of appropriate contract terms and conditions. It also reviews, negotiates and finalizes agreements to bring resources into campus for use in research under bailment-type agreements, including biological materials, equipment, data, chemicals, confidential information, and more. It also helps to support industry consortiums, industry sponsored institutes, and other programs for which IAO manages the contracts.
It ensures that contracts are compliant with laws, regulations, UC policies, and UC Berkeley campus practices, and it provides interpretation of terms, conditions, and obligations for internal and external customers.
