IT Security Specialist

Job Description

We are offering a contract‑to‑hire employment opportunity for an IT Security Specialist in the construction/contractor industry. This position is based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and protocols within the organization.

• Develop and implement comprehensive security policies, procedures, and protocols
• Conduct systematic security audits and risk assessments
• Create and maintain all IT Security documentation
• Develop and implement a company‑wide security training program
• Collaborate with IT staff to ensure system security and compliance with NIST Standards
• Provide training and guidance to IT staff on IT Security best practices
• Stay updated on the latest security threats and industry trends
• Maintain and update the company’s disaster recovery plan and lead annual tabletop exercises to test the plan
• Manage user access controls and identity management
• Install and manage network infrastructure including firewalls, switches, access points, and VPN
• Install, configure, and maintain all IT Security software including anti‑virus programs, intrusion detection systems, and SIEM systems
• Serve as backup to Helpdesk when necessary
• Travel to remote offices/job sites as needed

• Minimum of three years of professional experience working as an IT Security Specialist or a related role within the construction or contractor industry
• Proficient in Checkpoint, Cisco ASA, and Cisco Technologies
• Strong understanding of Cloud Technologies, including AWS Technologies
• Experience in Database management and AB Testing
• Familiarity with Auditing practices in IT security
• Proficiency in Configuration Management
• Advanced understanding of Cyber Security
• Experience with Cisco Products and Cisco Routers
• Familiarity with Juniper systems
• Demonstrable skills in Network Administration and Network Security
• Experience with Palo Alto Networks
• Knowledge of Routers and Telecom systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
• Relevant certifications like CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are advantageous
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work in a team, as well as independently when required
• Strong understanding of IT security protocols, data privacy laws, and ethical hacking
