This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Mainframe Systems Engineer - Remote based in the United States.
This role is focused on leading the stability, performance, and evolution of critical mainframe infrastructure within a complex enterprise environment. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust z/OS systems that support mission-critical business operations. The position requires deep technical expertise and the ability to solve highly complex system issues while ensuring maximum availability and performance. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional IT, business, and engineering teams to deliver scalable and reliable mainframe solutions.
The environment is highly structured and performance-driven, with strong expectations around system uptime, governance, and operational excellence. In addition, you will contribute to architecture decisions, production support strategies and continuous platform improvements. This is a senior technical leadership role with high impact on enterprise stability and continuity.
- Design, develop, test, and implement mainframe system solutions within a z/OS environment, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Provide ongoing production monitoring, support, and troubleshooting to maintain high system availability and operational continuity.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across IT, product, analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Monitor project execution against defined timelines, scope, and budgets, providing regular status updates and issue escalation when needed.
- Participate in architecture design discussions to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and long‑term infrastructure strategy.
- Document technical processes, system configurations, and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing and governance.
- Mentor and support junior and mid‑level engineers, contributing to team capability development and technical growth.
- Perform technical analysis to support decision‑making and improve system efficiency across enterprise platforms.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with IBM z/Series mainframe environments, including system maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Strong z/OS systems programming expertise, including SMPE, DB2, IMS, and CICS.
- Proven experience in technical problem‑solving and delivery of complex infrastructure solutions in enterprise environments.
- Experience collaborating across technical and business teams to deliver production‑ready systems.
- Strong understanding of system performance, reliability engineering, and operational best practices.
- Ability to manage technical delivery within defined scope, timelines, and budgets.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in distributed, cross‑functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Preferred: 10+ years of mainframe experience, vendor collaboration experience, and familiarity with 24/7 on‑call environments.
- Ability to work remote with alignment to EST working hours and participate in on‑call rotations when required.
