Senior Director, Technical Program Management – AI/ML (Remote Eligible)

As a Sr. Director of Technical Program Management (TPM) in Capital One’s Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team, you will help build the next-generation Generative AI platform and tools as the backbone of the company’s AI information. This strategy is fundamental for our technical organization to embrace AI and Machine Learning in unique and pioneering ways, enabling Capital One’s lines of business (such as credit card, retail banking, and auto finance) to deliver high reliability, real-time delightful experiences for our customers.

You will also pave the way for an expanding TPM discipline within the team, leveraging industry knowledge and experience to teach the organization what a great TPM can achieve.

• Strong technical background, ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services, with the ability to identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery life‑cycle.
• Experience building and leading a world‑class team of technical program managers focused on powerfully intelligent experiences for customers and associates.
• Ability to lead technology‑focused discussions with senior leadership, providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technology‑based decisions.
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, and influencing skills.
• Quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative implementer of holistic solutions; a systems thinker.
• Experience growing and developing a TPM team while building the foundations for the TPM practice.
• Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well‑educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives.
• Deep focus on execution, follow‑through, accountability, and results.
• Exceptional cross‑team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.
• Highly tuned emotional intelligence, a good listener, and deep‑seated empathy for teams and partners.

• At least 9 years of experience in technical program management.
• Bachelor's degree.

• 9+ years of experience designing and building data‑intensive solutions using distributed computing.
• 5+ years of experience building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services/architecture, preferably AWS.
• 5+ years of experience building on high‑scale, low‑latency data platforms.
• 5+ years of experience with Agile delivery.
• 5+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs—owning business or technical vision, collaborating with large cross‑functional teams, securing commitments on deliverables, and unblocking teams to land business impact.
• Experience in building systems and solutions within a highly regulated environment.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering).
• AI/ML industry impact through conference presentations, papers, blog posts, open source contributions, or patents.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
