This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations. HII designs, develops, integrates and manages the sensors, systems and other assets necessary to support integrated ISR operations and accelerated decision-making.

Job Description

We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Technical Specialist to support our work with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The role involves assessing inventions for patentability, preparing patent applications, and drafting responses to USPTO actions. The position is performed at NGA offices at either St. Louis, MO or Springfield, VA, with remote work authorized as needed. The role may be modified to part-time if required.

  • Conduct patent searches to assess the novelty and patentability of computer architecture, artificial intelligence, and other computer science and computer engineering inventions.
  • Conduct interviews with inventors to capture all required aspects of technologies submitted for the ORTA to make patenting recommendations.
  • Collaborate with inventors and OGC to develop patent prosecution strategy.
  • Work closely with OGC to prepare patent applications, including drafting specifications, drawings, and claims, and ensuring technical accuracy of the subject matter in the patent applications.
  • Provide technical and legal research and analysis to assist OGC in support of NGA submissions pending before the USPTO.
  • Assist OGC with preparing responses to USPTO actions and docket management.
  • Ensure procedures are in place to classify and maintain records.
  • Interpret and enforce all documentation formatting, standards, policies, and operating procedure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Five years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; three years relevant experience with a Master’s degree; or high school diploma with nine years of relevant experience.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance with the U.S. DoD.
  • Able to pass an HSPD‑12 background investigation.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of: computer architecture, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, software engineering, programming, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrated superior writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to orally communicate with inventors and draft technical specifications.
Preferred Requirements
  • U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Located near NGA offices in St. Louis, MO or Springfield, VA.
  • Submissions to technical journals and authorship of white papers in computer science, engineering or related fields.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with quick turnaround times and minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Patent Laws and regulations.
