Position SummaryReporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the Wireless Network Engineer assists with the design, implementation, and support of Marshall Health Network's wireless network and IT infrastructure. This position serves as a technical resource responsible for maintaining and optimizing wireless network performance, troubleshooting network issues, supporting data security, participating in disaster recovery efforts, and ensuring the reliability of network hardware and software.
The Wireless Network Engineer may also lead complex technical projects.
- Oversee and support the daily administration of the organization's wireless network and infrastructure.
- Design, implement, configure, maintain, and support network and telecommunications infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, switches, circuits, servers, racks, access points, and other network devices.
- Maintain physical and virtual servers, virtualization platforms, VOIP phones, firewalls, and related hardware and software.
- Support wireless connectivity for remote offices, telehealth devices, measuring instruments, and other network-connected equipment.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues and outages, and provide network performance reporting.
- Configure and maintain network devices in accordance with security standards and resolve network security issues.
- Manage server and software licensing, system updates, hardware patching, and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate software upgrades, testing, and change management for network infrastructure.
- Support Help Desk staff with network-related incidents.
- Perform system backups, recovery procedures, and routine hardware and software audits.
- Conduct wireless site surveys and design access point placement to support new construction and optimize existing environments.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, configuration records, network maps, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide technical guidance to IT leadership regarding network connectivity, capacity, and performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related IT field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or Microsoft certifications preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing networks and IT infrastructure.
- Hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, networking, peripherals, and various cable types.
- Experience with VOIP phone deployment and voicemail systems.
- Experience supporting HPE Aruba Access Points and Switches, Aruba Clear Pass (or other NAC solutions), Aruba Air Wave, Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and Ekahau surveying software and tools.
- Strong network analysis, troubleshooting, technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, including operating computers and standard office equipment, moving throughout healthcare facilities, lifting or pushing/pulling objects up to 35 pounds, performing tasks requiring manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination, and working in environments with moderate background noise.
