Lead Platform Architect, Cloud

Position Overview

The Lead Platform Architect, Cloud will be based in Richmond, Virginia and will work a hybrid schedule, with in‑office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and remote work on the remaining days. The role reports to the Director of Platform Architecture and is focused on designing, implementing, and managing secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure platforms.

• Participate in the Enterprise Architecture group responsible for defining and maintaining product and architectural standards for technology services.
• Define and maintain enterprise cloud infrastructure architecture, including landing zones, shared services, environment design, segmentation, and integration with enterprise network and identity platforms.
• Develop and document cloud infrastructure reference architectures and reusable patterns.
• Lead design for complex, cross‑tower initiatives involving cloud, network, identity, and operations.
• Ensure cloud designs are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business needs and enterprise standards.
• Partner with Network, Identity, Datacenter, and Security architects to ensure end‑to‑end infrastructure cohesion.
• Define cloud connectivity patterns (hybrid, multi‑region, SaaS integration).
• Ensure alignment between cloud architecture and enterprise infrastructure strategy.
• Evaluate and guide workload placement decisions across cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Promote reusable, automated infrastructure patterns instead of one‑off builds.
• Partner with Engineering teams to improve platform usability and developer experience.
• Mentor engineers and architects on cloud infrastructure best practices.

• 5+ years of experience as an architect.
• 10+ years of experience in IT.
• 5+ years of experience in cloud technologies (AWS and Azure) with a proven record of leading implementation of those technologies.
• Strong experience with public cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
• Experience designing and implementing enterprise‑scale infrastructure architectures.
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS), networking (routing, segmentation, hybrid connectivity), and identity and access management concepts.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience in hybrid cloud and datacenter integration.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture principles.
• Experience working in a regulated enterprise environment (financial services, insurance, etc.).

• National pay range: $120,900‑$187,000 (role aligned to a national market‑based pay range; actual compensation varies by location, experience, and other factors).
