Systems Engineer
Lead Network Architect
Designs and develops information technology infrastructure architecture solutions, aligning with enterprise architecture standards. Works on problems of moderate to substantial scope and provides level‑3 design, engineering implementation, and support for the Data Center Network Engineering team at Humana.
Responsibilities- Provide level‑3 design, engineering implementation, and support for the Data Center Network Engineering team.
- Perform on‑call and implementation duties during nights and weekends as required.
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot advanced Data Center Network technologies, including CLOS L3 Spine/Leaf, VxLAN BGP EVPN, MEC, MLAG, and vPC.
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot advanced Palo Alto, Cisco Nexus, and Arista Route/Switch solutions.
- Review Humana business requirements with Network Architects and Engineering teams.
- Create high‑level and low‑level design diagrams and traffic‑flow diagrams.
- Generate low‑level design cabling matrices and verify equipment and WAN circuit availability.
- Quote and review additional equipment needs, collaborating with leadership to order as required.
- Create implementation plans, change tickets in Service Now, and coordinate outage windows with PM.
- Build, deploy, and perform post‑implementation validation, verification, and performance testing.
- Participate in the on‑call rotation and provide after‑hours solution implementation and support.
- Leverage expertise to impact network performance and security.
- Enterprise‑level hands‑on experience with Cisco, Arista, and Palo Alto design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience with VxLAN BGP EVPN multi‑vendor technology and BGP at an architect level.
- Strong knowledge of CLOS L3 Spine/Leaf topology and multi‑tenant design.
- Experience managing tools such as Cisco NDFC/Nexus Dashboard, Arista Cloud Vision Portal, and Palo Alto Panorama.
- Proficiency with observability tools including Gigamon, Live Action, Arista DMF, and Viavi.
- Experience with QoS, Internet ingress/egress design, AI/NVIDIA architectures, and DC/Transport providers such as Equinix Fabric, Bare Metal, Megaport, MVE, MCR, and AT&T TAOS.
- Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts, automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Master’s degree in a technical field; PMP or PMI certification preferred.
Remote position requiring a dedicated workspace, a high‑speed DSL or cable modem with a minimum download speed of 25
Mbps and upload speed of 10
Mbps, and compliance with HIPAA privacy requirements. Occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings may be required.
Competitive total compensation package $129,300–$177,800 per year, with eligibility for a bonus incentive plan. The role also includes comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement savings, paid time off, parental leave, disability, and life insurance.
