About the Role

We are seeking a Data Scientist to contribute and lead the data science efforts for a cutting‑edge investigative platform used by thousands of external users. The platform serves as an essential tool for investigators, leveraging machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and statistical analysis techniques to process large‑scale unstructured image, text, and video data.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for developing, evaluating, and optimizing machine learning models, as well as conducting research to improve algorithm efficiency and performance. You will collaborate closely with a cross‑functional team of Dev Ops engineers, software developers, data engineers, and product managers to enhance the platform’s capabilities for its investigator user base.

This role is ideal for a mission‑driven individual who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys solving complex data challenges, and is passionate about building innovative solutions to support investigators in their critical work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize predictive models and machine learning solutions for analyzing unstructured data (text, images, video).
  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to design, build, and deploy scalable predictive systems.
  • Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to extract insights and improve platform performance.
  • Research and experiment with state‑of‑the‑art AI/ML methodologies.
  • Guide the data pipeline architecture from a data science perspective with a focus on robustness, scalability, and reproducibility.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging data science trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Identify and integrate additional data sources to enhance investigative capabilities.
  • Contribute directly to product development by working closely with the product team and client to refine requirements and deploy solutions.
About You

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical/Biological Sciences, or GIS).
  • 3‑5 years of experience in data processing, analysis, and machine learning development (education can substitute for some experience).
  • Proficiency in Python and experience working with structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning, NLP, computer vision, and statistical methodologies.
  • Experience working with large‑scale data.
  • The ability to take ownership of technical design decisions and ensure alignment with customer needs.
  • A curious and experimental mindset, with a passion for problem‑solving in dynamic environments.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • A team‑oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Hands‑on experience with Bash, SQL, and Docker.
  • Experience with graph databases and network analysis.
  • Familiarity with search engines, classification algorithms, and recommendation systems.
  • Participation in a rotating on‑call schedule to address any critical emergencies and ensure model availability.
