The Washington State Department of Corrections Information Technology (IT) team has the perfect opportunity for a dynamic and skilled professional to fill the role of IT Project Management Senior Specialist! The goal of this role is to perform full-scope project management for a variety of high-visibility, high risk, and high impact IT projects.
In this role, you will provide technical and organizational leadership in the area of project management in addition to leading strategic initiatives to integrate new technologies with existing enterprise technologies. You will direct complex, multi-agency infrastructure and system implementation projects. In addition, you will provide leadership, coaching/mentoring and expert project planning for major DOC mission critical infrastructure and computing systems implementation and upgrades.
Daily actions of the IT Project Management Senior Specialist include directing, planning, controlling, coordinating, and managing all aspects of various complex projects including scope, schedule, resources (staff and budget), requirements, issues, risks, communication, and change. This position requires significant interaction with IT and agency executives due to the nature of projects managed. You will be responsible for the delivery of assigned projects within defined project scope, schedule, and budget.
IT Project Management Senior Specialist plays a critical role in improving public safety by managing high visibility, risk and impact mission critical information technology projects that deliver robust, strategic technology solutions, and support mechanisms to 9,000 correctional workers across the agency. Job Responsibilities- Using an agreed on project management methodology and industry best practices, initiate and plan agency IT projects which will include:
- Working closely with executives and senior leaders in all business areas across DOC to identify solutions and alternatives to accomplish agency needs and strategic goals in a structured project environment.
- Providing the highest expert level technical and organizational leadership to plan the integration of new technologies with existing enterprise technologies and infrastructure.
- Directing the analysis and planning of complex, multi-agency systems and hardware/software solutions.
- Following the initiation phase and dynamically managing the critical areas of schedule, issues/risks, scope, and budget to achieve the project objectives including:
- Working with executives to develop, implement, and maintain project management plans specific to the needs of the project, sponsor, and steering committee.
- Creating and managing work breakdown structure (WBS) for the project with detailed activities, tasks, task dependencies, resource assignment, milestones, and deliverables for the project.
- Actively managing decisions, issues, risks (including mitigation activities), and change management processes consistent with the processes defined in the project management plan.
- Completing project close‐out activities marking an "end" to the project to include:
- Working with the executive sponsor and steering committee members, plan, and conduct a post‑implementation review identifying lessons learned and best practices.
- Facilitating working sessions, preparing survey materials, and soliciting input from technical staff stakeholders and other project team members including senior leaders.
- Publishing findings.
- Managing and performing a variety of assignments, work efforts and/or day‑to‑day operational activities involving multiple organizational activities internal and external to DOC.
