Cyber Systems Security Engineer

As a Cyber Systems Security Engineer, you will take a leadership role in enhancing cybersecurity. You’ll drive the development and integration of modern cyber solutions that protect and empower critical Department of Defense (DoD) assets. We are integrating state‑of‑the‑art cybersecurity solutions into mission‑critical systems to ensure resilience, integrity, and continued superiority under the sea and across domains. Provide Cyber engineering expertise, while understanding architectural needs and finding cyber solutions that can fit that need.

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls to protect system confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
• Leverage guidance from Risk Management Framework (RMF), Security Requirements Guides (SRG), and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) to advance cyber controls in system security architecture.
• Integrate secure configuration tools and processes for Linux and Windows environments.
• Perform security assessments and validate configurations through automated testing and tailored solutions.
• Collaborate across teams on secure system and network design that balances mission goals and cyber protection.
• Lead technical meetings, translate security requirements into actionable engineering tasks, and mentor team members.
• Have experience or understanding of basic networking switch/router/firewall/IDS concepts.
• Research new Cybersecurity capabilities, perform trade studies, and provide expertise to peers and leadership.
• Have experience with Linux systems and large system development.
• Develop Cyber Security Solutions (in any form) as a team.

• A desire to create new network and system capability and develop from design.
• Cloud experience such as Kubernetes and containers.
• Creative thinker with strong analytical, problem‑solving skills, and a continuous learning mindset.
• Knowledge of containers and securing the infrastructure through the cloud.
• Experience in agile methodologies that highlight Atlassian tools, namely Jira and Confluence.
• Experience in model‑based system engineering concepts (MBSE).
• Proficiency with Cyber best practice security concepts, models, and methods, including zero‑trust architecture, maturity models, advanced authentication methods, and STIG coding practices.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal members and external customers.
• Linux experience in scripting and/or development (e.g., Python, C, C++, Rust).
• Strong communication and leadership skills to engage internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Possess (or must obtain within 6 months of hiring) an approved DoD 8570 baseline certification for IAT Level II (Security+, GSEC, etc.).

• A Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering or IT field with 3 years of relevant experience; OR a master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant cyber experience; OR 7 years of relevant experience.
• Must be able to obtain and keep a DoD Secret Clearance, meaning you must be a U.S. citizen.
• Proactive/self‑starter, task‑driven with ability to work independently.
• Team player who takes ownership and develops relationships that foster team success.

Full‑time employee, 40 hours/week. Some remote work will be allowed.
