Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer
Job Title
This position is responsible for system management functions for all shared computer system platforms and operating systems, as well as datacenter operations.
Job Specific ResponsibilitiesDaily assignments may include but are not limited to:
- Centralized System Management Application Administration:
Manage application used to push updates, packages/applications, and configuration management to servers. - Assist in planning, implementing, administrating, and modifying our overall backup strategy. This includes, but is not limited to traditional backup methods, VM-level backups, SAN data replication, and air-gapped backups.
- Work with third-party vendor to manage databases to ensure optimal performance and backups.
- Automate processes where possible and beneficial using scripting technologies.
- Manager server architecture of the servers on premises as well as cloud platform servers
- Capacity planning, security administration, ensuring data integrity, data back up and recovery, system performance tuning, system software installation, patching, upgrades, and general troubleshooting
- Assist with strategic infrastructure design
- Evaluate up and coming technologies and their potential usefulness to the organization
- System Administration: AIX, Linux, Windows
High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree preferred) + 7 years of experience supporting, maintaining, and managing data center systems; working with virtualization platforms Scripting capabilities are highly preferred (Power Shell, Python, Bash)
Required Licensures/Certifications/RegistrationsITIL certification + 1 field certification
Skills and AbilitiesHighly technical, troubleshooting skills are required. Effective written and oral communication skills are required. Ability to mentor and help grow other team members. Well rounded knowledge of how enterprise server systems work to provide applications to end users In depth knowledge of how servers should be backed up, preserved, maintained for business continuity, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance
Interaction with Other Departments and Other RelationshipsInternal:
It is expected that this position will work closely with other departments across the organization to accomplish tasks/goals/requirements. External:
This position will work and interact with vendors and partners to accomplish varying organizational objectives.
Ability to lift PC and server equipment, none to exceed 75 pounds. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required for typing. Listening and talking is essential in dealing with co-workers and customers.
Environmental Working ConditionsWorks in a well-lit, heated, and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs of other departments. Many systems management functions can only be performed during non-peak hours. This position qualifies for a hybrid on-site/remote work location. Hybrid remote allows for three days a week to work remotely, and two days a week to work on site. Work may happen after hours, sometimes scheduled and sometimes unscheduled (during downtimes) After hours work may involve remote work, or it may involve on-site work
