Principal Engineer Core Network & Ethernet Services (Remote) - Telecommunications

Join a well-funded US fibee network operator expanding its next-generation broadband infrastructure across multiple markets. The organization is investing heavily in its core network capabilities and is seeking senior technical expertise to support the design and long-term evolution of its Ethernet services.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Principal Engineer looking to take ownership of the core network architecture and Ethernet service delivery model. You'll act as the senior technical authority for network design, service feasibility, and capacity planning across core, aggregation, and XGS-PON access networks, playing a critical role in rebuilding the organization's network planning capability.

Responsibilities:

• Define and own core architecture supporting Ethernet services, aggregation, transport and service edge
• Standardize Ethernet service delivery models: port-based and VLAN-based services, service multiplexing, segmentation and handoff
• Architect high-capacity optical transport, coherent optics, ER/ZR, backbone interconnects
• Ensure scalability for enterprise, wholesale and mobility transport (backhaul, fronthaul, midhaul)
• Build capacity forecasting models across core, aggregation and access, OLT, transport and backbone requirements, plus market-level growth scenarios
• Use telemetry, planning system data and build forecasts to improve capacity decision accuracy
• Automate capacity management workflows to reduce manual planning cycles
• Identify congestion risk, overbuild and under utilization, and the optimal timing for augmentation and capital deployment
• Work with data and IT teams to embed planning models into systems (GIS, Vitruvi, Service Now, data platforms)

Skills/Must Have:

• 10+ years in core network architecture, Ethernet services or telecom network engineering
• Strong fundamental network planning, capacity modelling, network architecture, network design
• Deep Layer 2 / Layer 3 networking and Ethernet service design
• Optical transport expertise, coherent optics, ER/ZR, DWDM
• Experience integrating PON access with core network architecture
• Carrier-scale telecom background
• Proven as a senior individual contributor able to operate independently from day one, with no extended ramp-up
