Role Description
The AI Research Engineer role is a part-time, remote position focused on developing and applying artificial intelligence techniques to support Sankalp’s social impact projects.
The AI Research Engineer role includes designing and experimenting with machine learning models, analyzing datasets related to community initiatives, and implementing algorithms for tasks such as pattern recognition and natural language processing. The role involves collaborating with project leads to translate organizational needs into technical solutions, building prototypes and tools that can aid decision-making and outreach, and documenting research findings and technical approaches for future use.
The AI Research Engineer will also stay informed about emerging AI methodologies relevant to social good, contribute to technical strategy, and support the integration of AI systems into existing workflows in a resource-conscious manner.
- Strong foundation in core Computer Science concepts and Software Development, including algorithms, data structures, and clean, maintainable coding practices.
- Proficiency in Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks, with experience in designing, training, and evaluating machine learning models.
- Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), including text preprocessing, model selection, and application to real-world, impact-focused use cases.
- Familiarity with common AI/ML tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, PyTorch, Tensor Flow, scikit-learn) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage part-time hours effectively, and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders using clear, inclusive communication.
- Background in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline (formal degree or equivalent practical experience).
- Interest in social impact, community development, and applying technology to address real-world challenges; prior experience in non-profit or civic tech environments is an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving project needs.
