About

The Role

Tria Federal is seeking a Senior UX Designer to lead human-centered design initiatives supporting a large-scale federal healthcare quality and payment modernization project. This role involves driving end-to-end design efforts across complex, high-visibility digital services utilized by hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals and administrative users nationwide. The Senior UX Designer will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary agile teams to craft usable, accessible, equitable, and scalable experiences that align with real-world workflows in highly regulated environments.

As part of Tria s Human Experience Practice, you will influence digital experiences that reduce administrative burdens, increase transparency, and enhance the delivery of services on a national scale. This position offers a unique opportunity to impact public-sector systems directly affecting policy implementation, operational efficiency, and digital transformation for millions of Americans.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess over five years of experience in UX design, product design, or human-centered design for complex digital systems. Demonstrated expertise in designing enterprise, healthcare, civic technology, or highly regulated digital products is essential. Proficiency in creating user flows, information architecture, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes using tools such as Figma is required. Experience working within Agile environments and collaborating with sprint teams using Jira and Confluence is highly preferred.

Knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 or higher, is necessary. Candidates should have experience contributing to design systems and reusable component libraries, possess strong critical thinking skills, and demonstrate excellent communication, facilitation, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement abilities. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance is mandatory, along with residency in the United States for the past three of the last five years.

The role requires the ability to work onsite at least once a week in Windsor Mill, MD. Additionally, familiarity with AI tools and principles related to AI-augmented design workflows is considered a baseline requirement.

Responsibilities

As a Senior UX Designer, your responsibilities will include leading comprehensive UX design efforts throughout the product lifecycle—from discovery and concept development to implementation and ongoing optimization. You will translate complex policy, regulatory, and business requirements into intuitive workflows, interaction models, and scalable experience patterns. Creating and iterating on user flows, task models, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, journey maps, and service blueprints will be central to your role.

Partnering with UX Researchers to incorporate insights, collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, and federal stakeholders to embed design into agile delivery cycles, and advocating for accessibility and inclusive design are vital aspects of your work. You will contribute to and maintain design systems for consistency and scalability, review implemented solutions to ensure fidelity, and evaluate AI-enabled features for usability, transparency, and trustworthiness.

Documenting and communicating design rationale clearly to diverse audiences, including technical teams and leadership, is essential.
