Role Summary

The System Administrator provides technical and administrative support for all IT aspects of the business, maintaining advanced knowledge of existing hardware and software to maximize network efficiency and user productivity. This role provides written documentation evaluating IT system data on a periodic basis, works with the CIO on technology advisement, oversees computer networks to ensure smooth operation, and manages the internal phone system.

Functions
  • Monitor, maintain, automate, and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
  • Assist in providing IT infrastructure and software support on problems reported by users involving network availability, and perform necessary maintenance
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary, including for the local network, remote office networks, and WAN connections between them
  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made now or in the future
  • Recommend changes to the CIO to improve systems and network configurations, and determine related hardware or software requirements
  • Maintain Windows Server management
  • Monitor backup applications and maintain current and new network storage, VMWare, and security tools
  • Monitor replication
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications, anti-virus, and anti-spam applications
  • Issue access cards, alarm codes, long distance codes, and Active Directory logons
  • Maintain security applications, including cameras and access systems
  • Maintain, analyze, and repair computer and voice system malfunctions, including tracking restarts, processing delays and errors, and other signs of unsatisfactory or unusual conditions
  • Move phones, set up voicemail, and provide related training
  • Respond to and resolve calls escalated from the Help Desk
  • Perform and implement data backups and disaster recovery operations
  • Maintain other equipment, including projectors and AV equipment
  • Install, configure, and support the organization’s LAN, WAN, and internet systems, or a segment of the network
  • Monitor and test website performance to ensure proper operation without interruption
  • Assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software
  • Administer network security measures
  • Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software in use to provide high levels of user support
  • Implement changes in production environments
  • Develop usage policies and standards as required, and monitor compliance, regularly reporting non-compliance to the CIO
  • Issue technical bulletins to inform users of system changes
  • Act as a technical advisor to systems analysts, application specialists, and operations personnel
  • Maintain and use programs to record system use and analyze equipment use
  • Provide the CIO with regular reports detailing computer and voice system service levels, maintenance, throughput, turnaround, and response times
  • Manage technical performance improvement programs, stressing quality control of service to clients
  • Ensure data and system security by protecting corporate IT resources from unauthorized access, use, or interruption, and research and recommend security measures for new systems or application programs
  • Inform the CIO of the status of system management issues
  • Perform the role of Application Specialist as requested

Qualifications Experience & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; 5+ years of directly related experience considered in lieu of education
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Advanced working knowledge of Windows Server administration, network infrastructure, and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare) preferred
