Database Administrator, IT Consultant
Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Database Administrator to support KITS and our government customer in Washington, DC. The position is remote. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust.

Koniag IT Systems (KITS) is seeking a Database Administrator with a minimum of 4 years of experience to support administration, maintenance, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle database environments for a federal civilian customer. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a production enterprise environment, and interested in growing cloud database experience as the program continues its AWS migration.
The Database Administrator will be responsible for performing day-to-day administration of Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases, supporting data migration tasks associated with the customer's ongoing cloud modernization and data center consolidation efforts, and responding to database-related incidents in Service Now.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Perform day-to-day administration of Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases, including installation, configuration, and patching.
- Monitor database health, performance, and job scheduling, escalating issues to senior DBAs as needed.
- Execute routine backup and recovery procedures and support periodic disaster recovery testing.
- Support database user access requests, role management, and security auditing in accordance with agency policy.
- Assist with data migration tasks associated with the customer's ongoing cloud modernization and data center consolidation efforts.
- Write and optimize basic to intermediate SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts in support of operational needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, schedules, and standard operating procedures.
- Respond to database-related incident tickets in Service Now and participate in root cause analysis.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours database support as needed.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 4 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases
- Working knowledge of database backup, recovery, and basic performance tuning concepts
- Proficiency writing SQL queries and troubleshooting routine database issues
Competencies:
- Familiarity with database security and access control practices
- Understanding of ITSM ticketing and change management processes
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to obtain public trust clearance
Competencies:
- Experience working in a federal government IT environment
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST
- Microsoft Certified:
Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database certification, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner - Exposure to AWS RDS or cloud-hosted database environments
- Familiarity with Service Now or similar ITSM platforms
