Description

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for maximizing the value of Murdoch's technology investments to improve customer experience, team member effectiveness, and business performance. The CIO leads the technology organization while partnering closely with Stores/Operations, Marketing, eCommerce, Merchandising, Supply Chain, HR, and Finance to ensure technology capabilities are fully integrated into how the business operates and serves customers.

Murdoch's has made significant investments in its technology foundation, including ERP, point‑of‑sale, eCommerce, supply chain, data, and infrastructure platforms. The CIO's primary responsibility is to accelerate adoption, utilization, and business value from these capabilities while identifying practical opportunities to improve operational performance and customer outcomes.

As a member of the Leadership Team, the CIO contributes to corporate strategy, helps shape business priorities, and serves as a trusted partner in delivering growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

This position is located at the Home Office in Bozeman, MT.

Business Leadership & Value Realization
  • Serve as a business leader first and technology leader second.
  • Partner closely with Stores/Operations, Marketing & eCommerce leaders to improve business outcomes.
  • Maximize return on technology investments through adoption, integration, and process improvement.
  • Establish and track measurable outcomes for major technology initiatives.
  • Use data, automation, and AI capabilities to improve customer experience, team member productivity, and decision‑making.
Store & Customer Experience
  • Improve the effectiveness of frontline store teams through technology, information, and process improvements.
  • Ensure technology enables a seamless customer experience across stores and digital channels.
  • Regularly engage with stores and distribution centers to identify opportunities to simplify work, improve execution, and remove friction for customers and team members.
  • Partner with Marketing/eCommerce leadership to strengthen customer engagement, loyalty, personalization, and omnichannel experiences.
Technology Strategy and Operations
  • Define and lead the technology strategy required to support Murdoch's business objectives and long‑term growth.
  • Own the performance, reliability, security, and cost‑effectiveness of Murdoch's core technology platforms, including ERP, POS, eCommerce, supply chain, infrastructure, and data platforms.
  • Balance operational excellence, strategic planning, and disciplined execution of technology initiatives.
  • Ensure business continuity, cybersecurity, and appropriate technology governance.
Team Leadership
  • Build and develop a high‑performing technology organization that attracts, retains, and grows exceptional talent.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and business partnership.
  • Develop future leaders and create opportunities for team member growth and engagement.
Financial & Vendor Management
  • Manage technology operating and capital budgets with a focus on business value and return on investment.
  • Establish strong vendor relationships and negotiate aggressively to manage costs.
  • Ensure technology resources and investments are aligned with company priorities.
Requirements
  • 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including significant executive leadership responsibility.
  • Proven success leading technology organizations within retail, consumer, or multi‑location operating environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business leaders to improve customer experience, operational performance, and financial results.
  • Experience leading large‑scale technology transformations and driving adoption of enterprise technology capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of retail technology ecosystems, including ERP, commerce, supply chain, data, and customer engagement platforms.
  • Track record of building, leading, and developing high‑performing teams.
  • Strong financial, organizational, and change leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication, influence, and relationship‑building skills.
