About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review examples, evaluate model responses, and provide precise feedback that helps AI systems become more accurate, useful, and safe.

This remote contract role applies professional biology knowledge to cutting-edge model evaluation. It offers flexible part-time work for contributors who want to help shape how AI handles scientific information.

The Role

Open Train is hiring a Biology Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated biology content and trainer QA work across remote biology training projects. You will assess scientific accuracy, biological reasoning, terminology, experimental logic, unit consistency, safety awareness, clarity, formatting, instruction-following, and rubric adherence.

You will also provide precise written feedback, communicate workflow changes, maintain documentation, support onboarding, and help resolve recurring quality issues across distributed teams.

  • Contract, part-time role
  • Remote within the United States
  • 20+ hours per week
  • Up to $75 per hour
  • English-language work
What You'll Do

You will combine subject-matter expertise, careful review, and clear communication to help maintain high standards across biology-focused AI training projects.

  • Review AI-generated biology explanations, biological mechanisms, genetics problems, diagrams, and problem-solving steps for correctness and clarity.
  • Spot-check contributor work, identify recurring quality issues, and escal… . . .
  • Communicate project updates, guidelines, and biology-specific review standards to trainers and QAs.
  • Answer questions about biological reasoning, experimental design, methods, safety concerns, scientific claims, and rubric interpretation.
  • Create and maintain trackers, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, style guides, FAQs, and onboarding materials.
  • Flag unsafe, misleading, or overconfident recommendations involving lab procedures, biological samples, pathogens, genetic engineering, health claims, or biosafety.
  • Support onboarding, training calls, activation follow-up, and process improvement for scalable QA workflows.
Required Qualifications

This role requires substantial biology expertise and the ability to evaluate complex scientific content against detailed standards. A degree is required in one of the listed fields or a closely related discipline.

  • Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong English communication skills for clear scientific feedback and team coordination.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in biology research, laboratory work, teaching, scientific writing, technical review, quality control, biotechnology, life sciences, or related workflows.
  • Strong understanding of cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, anatomy, developmental biology, and experimental design.
  • Ability to identify incorrect assumptions, flawed reasoning, inaccurate terminology, missing context, unsafe recommendations, hallucinated facts, incomplete explanations, and misleading scientific claims.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, large language models, prompt or response evaluation, scientific content QA, or rubric-based LLM evaluation is a strong plus.
Helpful Background

The following experience can help you succeed in this role, especially when reviewing technical biology content and supporting distributed project teams.

  • Familiarity with laboratory documentation, microscopy, PCR or qPCR, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, ELISA, bioinformatics basics, statistical interpretation, safety data sheets, or scientific literature review.
  • Experience supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, researchers, technical writers, educators, or QAs.
  • Comfort working with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, honeypots, and calibration tasks.
Who Should Apply

This opportunity is a strong fit for an experienced biology professional who enjoys precise scientific review and wants to contribute to the development of AI systems. You should be comfortable explaining complex biological concepts, identifying subtle quality problems, and giving actionable feedback to others.

Your work may influence how AI handles experimental logic, biological mechanisms, genetics, laboratory methods, safety…
